2016-17: After appearing in the Penn State lineup only occasionally during the fall semester, DeRose became a regular by the end of the year and participated in 16 of the 24 possible contests. She generally played on Jordan Chiavacci's wing and helped provide PSU with quality depth.

Prior to Penn State: DeRose played with the South Hills Amateur Hockey Association (SHAHA) U19 team coached by her father, Nick DeRose. The right-handed shot helped the Panthers to a third-place finish in the Pittsburgh Amateur Hockey League standings in 2015-16 - while allowing a mere 1.4 goals per game in league play. SHAHA also made a run to the PAHL playoff finals by winning a shootout in the semifinals before a double-overtime loss for the championship. Notably, alumni of the Panthers program include both new teammate Tarika Embar and Tarika's twin sister Emma, a Lady Ice Lion from 2014-16.

Personal: Julia Nicole DeRose was born on April 17, 1998 in Pittsburgh, PA to Nick and Kim DeRose and has a sister, Alex. After graduating from Bethel Park High School with highest honors, she is pursuing a degree in veterinary and biomedical sciences with the goal of becoming a veterinary orthopedic surgeon.
