PSU Moves Up in Season's Second Poll

The Penn State Women's Ice Hockey Club moved up from fifth to fourth in the nation and fourth to third in the East Region in the second ACHA Women's Division 2 poll of the the season, released Saturday afternoon.

California (PA) remained in the top spot overall, edging out second-ranked West Chester by a single point. The Vulcans and Golden Rams are also the top two teams in the east, and are joined by number three Wisconsin-Stout, a western team, ahead of PSU. Penn State jumped fellow eastern team Delaware to gain its spot, and has a comfortable lead over all other easterners.

Significantly the WIHC's ranking, as of right now, would qualify the team for the ACHA national championships, held in Ashburn, VA over the first weekend in March. To qualify for nationals, a team must finish among the top four teams in its East/West designation. A challenging spring semester schedule, including games at West Chester on January 26th and 27th, will give Penn State further opportunity to prove itself to the voters and solidify its invitation.
