Denis, Nyman Join WIHC

The Women's Ice Hockey Club is proud to welcome two talented new forwards for the spring semester: Elizabeth Denis and Taylor Nyman.

Denis (pictured) is a name familiar to Penn State hockey, as she was a member of the ACHA Division 1 Lady Icers last season. She appeared in nine ACHA games in 2011-12, scoring six times and adding three assists. She also played in two games against NCAA Division III Chatham, scoring in a 2-2 tie on November 5, 2011, as well as in a game against NCAA Division I Robert Morris on September 23, 2011.

As an undergraduate at Brown, the Durham, NH native played two seasons of NCAA Division I hockey from 2006 through 2008 before electing to concentrate on academics during her junior and senior years. Prior to Brown, she attended Phillips Exeter Academy and graduated cum laude, while also helping the Assabet Valley 19U team to a silver medal at the 2006 USA Hockey national championships. Denis is a Ph.D. candidate in Penn State's top-ranked geosciences program.

Nyman, a sophomore, has transferred to University Park from the Altoona campus. The right-handed shot is a visual arts major and a 2011 graduate of Souderton Area High School. Most recently, she spent 2010 through 2012 playing for the Hatfield Angels 19U Tier II team. In 2008-09 and 2009-10, Nyman played for the Angels 16U. In the latter season, she was given the team's playmaker award for recording three or more assists in a game three times. In all, she finished sixth in the league in scoring and also helped the team to the Ponytail Tournament title.
