WIHC Holds Strong in Ranking 3

In the third poll of the ACHA Women's Division 2 season, the Women's Ice Hockey Club retained its nationals-worthy third position in the East Region.

Penn State, thanks largely to its 2-1 win over West Chester on January 26th, did manage to close some ground on the leaders, though. In ranking number two, PSU was 25 points behind WCU and 26 behind top-ranked California. That gap has now closed to seven and 18, respectively. Perhaps more significantly, the WIHC now has a 15-point cushion over Connecticut, the East's number five team. The top four teams from each region qualify for the ACHA National Championships, held March 7-10 in Ashburn, VA.

The team returns to action next weekend, with games on February 9th and 10th at ACHA WD1's Buffalo. The importance of that series is underscored by the fact that the season's final ranking - which is used to extend nationals invitations - will be released during the following week.

Here are the full rankings. Previous polls are viewable on the ACHA Rankings page.
