The Opponent

Name: Liberty University
Nickname: Flames
Location: Lynchburg, VA

About Liberty: The Flames, like Penn State, are playing in their first official games this season following a pair of scrimmages two weekends ago against the Carolina Lighting U16s. Liberty is attempting to reverse its fortunes from a disastrous 0-12-0 record in 2012-13 and will look to leaders like State College product Rena Leone to get off to a good start. Goalie Leanne Niemi, the younger sister of head coach Sara Niemi, is another player to watch, as she posted a 0.911 save percentage last year despite being constantly under siege.

Trivia: Liberty is the only school to sponsor teams in all five ACHA divisions (men's divisions 1, 2 and 3, women's divisions 1 and 2)

Record (2012-13): 0-12-0
Conference: DVCHC
Head Coach: Sara Niemi (2nd year)
Goals Scored Per Game (2012-13): 0.58
Goals Allowed Per Game (2012-13): 5.83
