|Penn State returns to Pegula Ice Arena on November 9th against archrival West Chester|
The American Collegiate Hockey Association has revealed the four dates this season where a Women's Division 2 coaches poll will be taken. They are:
Sunday, November 17, 2013
Sunday, December 15, 2013
Sunday, January 26, 2014
Sunday, February 9, 2014
The final ranking, of course, will be used to determine bids to the ACHA National Tournament, held in Newark, DE from March 13-16, 2014. The top four teams from both the East and West Regions in the February 9th poll will be invited to compete for the title.
Voting criteria remains identical to previous seasons and includes:
a. Head to head competition
b. Strength of schedule
c. Overall Record
d. Record vs. Ranked Teams (Top 5, Top 10)
e. Games with common opponents
f. Women’s Division 2 Record
Generally, the rankings are compiled with squads separated by region to match their ultimate purpose, although last year, all teams were combined into one poll for the initial two releases.
At 5-1-0 (1-1-0 College Hockey East), including a road win over 2013 nationals participant California (PA), the Women's Ice Hockey Club looks to present a strong case for high placement in the first ranking. Penn State will return to the ice on November 9th and 10th at Pegula Ice Arena against defending national champion and CHE rival West Chester before visiting Delaware on November 16th and 17th in another crucial pair of CHE contests.
Last season, the WIHC debuted in the fifth spot of the November 18, 2012 poll and closed the campaign as the number four team in the East Region. All four CHE teams - PSU, WCU, Cal and Delaware - finished in the East's top four to qualify for the 2013 ACHA championships.
