PSU Tops Season's First Poll

In the 2013-14 season's first coaches poll, released Friday and including games through November 17th, the Women's Ice Hockey Club has been voted the first place team in the East Region of ACHA Women's Division 2.

The rankings determine the participants in the ACHA National Tournament, which will close the campaign in Newark, DE from March 13th through 16th, 2014. Each of the top four teams from the East and West Regions will be invited.

PSU edged out College Hockey East rival California for the top spot with three first place votes and two second place votes. The Vulcans received two first place votes and two second place votes, largely as the result of a series split between the two teams on October 11th and 12th. Two more CHE teams, West Chester and Delaware, round out the top four.

Penn State, which is 8-1-1 overall and 4-1-1 in CHE, is set to begin a resume for the second ranking - which has a cutoff date of December 15th - Friday night at 9:00 p.m. in Pegula Ice Arena against East No. 5 Slippery Rock.
