Previously: Vaughan Selected to Team USA For 2013 World University Games
USA Hockey has announced that Women's Ice Hockey Club freshman Geneva Wagoner will be an alternate to the U.S. Women's National University Team, which will compete at the 16th Winter World University Games in Trentino, Italy from December 10th through 21st.
Wagoner's collegiate career is off to a spectacular start, with Penn State bests of six goals, five assists and 11 points in eight games. Three of her tallies have served as game winners, including in tight victories over California on October 12th and Michigan State on October 20th. The Millbrook School product is one of five alternates who may be added to the active roster ahead of the Games, should one of those 22 players be unable to compete.
That latter group includes senior goaltender Katie Vaughan, named to the team last month, while long-time PSU coach Mo Stroemel will lead Team USA. Both Vaughan and Stroemel held identical roles on the American entry at the previous WUG, which took fourth place in Erzurum, Turkey in 2011.
The U.S. has also added two pre-tournament tune-up games, on December 5th against the Italian Women's National Team and on December 7th against the Austrian Women's National Team.
