Tuorinsky's Goal Too Little And Too Late As Adrian Completes Sweep

Liz Tuorinsky scored Penn State's goal on Saturday afternoon

Despite a late power play goal by Liz Tuorinsky, No. 4 Adrian managed to complete a sweep of Penn State by a 6-1 count on Saturday afternoon at Arrington Ice Arena in Adrian, MI.

Tuorinsky's goal, during a tripping call to the Bulldogs' Sabrena Camp, capped some typically-sharp puck movement from the power play unit including Cassie Dunne as the opposite defenseman, along with Meghan Miller, Rachel Cole and Katelyn Trask up front. On the play, Miller won a battle in the left corner and fed the puck high to Dunne. The senior alternate captain then slid the disc across to Tuorinsky, who wound and fired past the glove of a barely-able-to-react Kalysta Coulter for her first tally of the season.

Penn State's other special team was less effective however, and faltered at a key point during the game that allowed Adrian to salt the result away.

With the score lingering at 2-0 Bulldogs well into a second period that generally saw greatly-improved play from the Lady Ice Lions otherwise, Jess Fabbro cashed in a slick setup from Nicole Paradis with ten seconds left in a tripping call to Kelly Watson. Then, early in the third period, Kaillie Hardy converted another Bulldogs power play to push her team's advantage to 4-0. In all, Adrian cashed in the two power plays on four Penn State penalties.

Britt Levasseur made the score 5-0 on a fantastic individual effort, skating down left wing and through three blue jerseys less than two minutes after Hardy's power play goal, before Tuorinsky struck with 4:41 left in the game. Penn State's power play ended with that goal on three tries.

Levasseur buried again in the late going for the final result, while Fabbro and Courtney Hoke accounted for the Bulldogs' first-period scoring.

Lady Ice Lions goalie Meg Lydick closed with 41 saves on Saturday, and 72 over the two game series, but still saw her record drop to 1-7-0.

Up next, in two weeks, PSU will engage in a long weekend of travel to two very familiar places: UMass' Mullins Center (on November 18th and 19th) and Northeastern's Matthews Arena (on November 20th). Game times for the contests against the Minutewomen and Huskies are at 8:00 p.m., 6:00 p.m. and 7:30 a.m., respectively.
